US President Trump has expressed conditional agreement to a two-week ceasefire proposal.
In a tweet on Truth Social, Trump tweet wrote that an immediate ceasefire would be mutual. We have received a 10-point proposal from Iran that we believe is a practical basis for negotiations.
He said that the immediate ceasefire agreement is conditional on Iran’s agreement to fully and immediately open the Strait of Hormuz. It may be recalled that Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had requested US President Donald Trump to “extend the deadline given to Iran by two weeks.”
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif made this request to President Trump through a post on the social media platform ‘X’ on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.
He said that ‘diplomatic efforts for a peaceful settlement of the ongoing war in the Middle East are progressing continuously, strongly and vigorously and it is highly likely that they will reach concrete results in the near future.’
Responding to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s post, White House spokesperson Caroline Levitt said that “President Trump is aware of the request and will act on it soon.”
Earlier, two Pakistani sources told the British news agency Reuters on Tuesday that efforts to hold talks between the United States and Iran were still ongoing. While American attacks on Iran have intensified and President Donald Trump’s deadline for “doomsday” is approaching. One of the sources, a senior security official, said the threat of Iranian attacks on Saudi Arabia had raised concerns that the talks would be derailed.
According to sources, ‘If the conflict escalates, Pakistan will stand with Saudi Arabia under the defense agreement.’ It should be remembered that earlier, US President Donald Trump has once again urged Iran to reach an agreement within the deadline given by Tuesday, otherwise if no agreement is reached to end the conflict, ‘an entire civilization will disappear tonight.’
