CAIRO, October 19, 2026: Egypt has signalled its readiness to provide support to Saudi Arabia amid an escalation in fighting involving Yemen’s Houthi movement, according to Reuters reporting on October 18.
The Egyptian presidency expressed support for Saudi security and stability. President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi requested an urgent parliamentary session to discuss potential military assistance if Riyadh asked for it, Reuters reported.
Support offer is not a deployment
Egypt’s statement is a diplomatic expression of readiness, not confirmation that Egyptian troops or equipment have been deployed. Any military assistance would depend on further decisions and requests by the governments involved.
Regional tensions rise
Saudi Arabia has faced attacks on airports and energy-related infrastructure amid renewed hostilities with the Houthis. The situation has heightened concerns about civilian safety, cross-border security and disruptions to trade and transport.
Egypt and Saudi Arabia have longstanding diplomatic and economic ties. Cairo’s public expression of support is significant in the context of the regional crisis, but the scale and form of any future assistance remain uncertain.
GulfInside will update this story if the two governments announce specific measures.
