BRUSSELS, October 19, 2026: Chinese automotive manufacturers are broadening their overseas presence, including in Europe, as fierce competition in their domestic market encourages companies to pursue customers and production opportunities abroad.
Reuters reporting from October 13–15 described efforts by Chinese carmakers to expand dealer networks, local operations and manufacturing strategies in Europe.
Building a long-term presence
Entering a market requires more than exporting vehicles. Automakers must establish customer service, spare-parts logistics, regulatory compliance and distribution partnerships.
Trade and competition
European trade policies and local manufacturing decisions can affect expansion plans. Companies face competition from established European, Japanese and South Korean manufacturers as well as other Chinese brands.
Specific investment or factory plans should be assessed separately; an industry-wide trend does not mean that every Chinese automaker has committed to European production.
